What Lemonsignal does
Lemonsignal shows hiring teams how candidates really work with AI. Candidates do a real work task in Claude Code, Codex, Claude Cowork or ChatGPT. You see how well they did, and their full conversation with the AI as a session replay: the prompts, commands and edits on one timeline, and the moments that explain the result. Every score links to the moment it came from.
AI is the fastest, most confident junior colleague most people have ever had. Lemonsignal tests how well people manage it.
What it scores
- Understand: Do they understand the task before handing it to AI?
- Brief: Do they give AI what it needs?
- Check: Do they catch it when AI is wrong?
- Correct: Do they fix it when it isn’t working?
- Sign off: Is what they hand over ready to send?
- Reuse: Do they make it repeatable?
Each skill gets one of these levels:
| Level | Points | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Weak | 0 points | They did the opposite, at a moment that asked for the skill, and did not recover. |
| Partial | 1 point | Some of what the scoring sheet asks for, or met late. |
| Solid | 2 points | Everything the scoring sheet asks for. |
| Strong | 3 points | Everything the sheet asks for, plus the one thing that marks the best answers. |
| Not tested | No points | The task gave them no chance to show it, or the evidence conflicts. It never counts against them. |
Never scored: prompt length or count, speed, which AI tool, writing polish or English fluency.
How scoring works
- Every task has a scoring sheet, written before any candidate takes it.
- Each task has a spot where AI usually gets it wrong.
- The score is the points earned out of the points possible. Solid in all six is 12 of 18, so 67%.
- The recommendation is one of: Strong match, Good match with one open question, Below the bar, or Not enough evidence.
- In a full assessment, Lemonsignal also reads two or three skills for the role, on the same piece of work.
- Lemonsignal gives a first read of each session. Your hiring manager or recruiter watches the session, checks the read and can add comments. They decide.
What you get
- A score for the role, the six skills with the moment behind each, and a question for the interview.
- The whole conversation: every prompt and every answer.
- The candidate gets their result back: every skill, the moment it’s based on, and what to work on next.
Who it is for
Hiring teams, for any role. There are tasks for Engineering, Product, Design, Marketing, Data, Finance. A team can also bring real work of its own, which we turn into a task.
What Lemonsignal is not
- Not LemonSignal, an unrelated open-source signal library for Roblox (Luau) on GitHub.
- Not a quiz about AI. Candidates do real work, in a real AI tool.
- Not only for engineers. It covers any role.
- Not an AI detector. It expects candidates to use AI, and looks at how they do.
How it compares
Comparisons with other tools, checked against each product’s own site. See also the best AI skills assessment tools, where we say that we make Lemonsignal.
Choose Lemonsignal if:
- You hire for roles outside engineering, too.
- You want candidates in the AI tool they would use in the job, not a built-in one.
- You want to watch the whole session yourself, and see the moment behind every score.
Each comparison also says when the other tool is the better choice. For the details side by side, see the entity map.
